This project, aptly named Conjugates, originates from photographs of real objects and explores the concept of how nominally inanimate geometric elements can morph into moving, transforming, three-dimensional constructs. Ordinary spirals assume dynamic shapes with a flexible and growing, multigonal boundary of abundant complexity and depth. As viewers engage with the artwork, their eyes embark on a journey that draws them to multiple locations, revealing complexity in deceiving simplicity.
Conjugates stands out from other art projects due to its unique realization technology. Through photomanipulation techniques, Manss Aval brings the geometric constructs to life, creating an interactive experience for the viewers. While at a distance, the artwork appears to be a simple geometric design. However, as one focuses on the intersection of the two main spirals, the complexity unfolds. The eye tries to identify the submerged geometric constructs and their subtle metamorphosis into one another. With every new attempt to identify the stepwise transformations, a different detail emerges, prompting yet another discovery journey.
The Conjugates project was realized through archival print on brushed aluminum, measuring 40 inches by 40 inches. This choice of medium complements the abstract nature of the objects, as the textured surface reflects light from different angles, adding life and dimensionality to the presentation.
From its inception in October 2015 to its completion in January 2016, Conjugates has garnered significant recognition and accolades. It has been exhibited at prestigious art fairs and events such as the Clio Art Fair, ArtExpo (New York), Premio Arte Roma 2016 (Rome), ArT Venice 2016 (Venice), Art San Diego 2016 (San Diego), and Red Dot Miami 2016 (Miami). The artwork was also recognized by the Concorso Buenos Aires in the Hot 40 CCBA 2016 Artworks contest and the Biancoscuro Art Contest 2016. It even graced the cover of Biancoscuro Art Magazine's December/January issue.
The underlying research for Conjugates aimed to illustrate the intrinsic beauty of every object in the human environment, even if nominally inanimate. The project sought to present this beauty in an aesthetically pleasing, two-dimensional format. The virtual animation, demonstrating how an inanimate geometric shape can become a dynamic construct, required careful exploration of transformation protocols and their subsequent conversion into acceptable presentations. Manss Aval's meticulous attention to composition, color, and rendering ensured that the minimalist yet suggestive approach met critical objectives.
Conjugates represents a breakthrough in photography-based art, offering a fresh perspective on the inherent beauty of geometric constructs. Manss Aval's visionary approach and dedication to pushing artistic boundaries have earned him the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2017. This award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements, contributing to a better world.
